This half term, some children will be taking part in art therapy sessions. This provides a gentle, creative way for children to explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe and supportive environment. Sometimes it can be hard for children to put their emotions into words, but through drawing, painting, sculpting, and other creative activities, they can express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable.
Why Art Therapy Is Beneficial:
- Supports emotional expression: Art gives children a voice when words are hard to find. It helps them process feelings such as anxiety, frustration, sadness, or excitement in a healthy way.
- Builds confidence and self-esteem: Creating something of their own encourages a sense of achievement and pride. There is no “right or wrong” in art therapy, just self-expression.
- Develops emotional regulation: Creative activities can be calming and grounding. Children learn strategies to manage big emotions and feel more in control.
- Encourages problem-solving and resilience: Art involves decision-making and adapting ideas, which strengthens flexible thinking and perseverance.
- Provides a safe space: Sessions are designed to be nurturing and non-judgmental, helping children feel heard, valued, and understood.
If you have any questions about the sessions, please feel free to pop in and see Mrs Lindley!
