Outdoor Club was full of excitement today as the children finally tipped out the potato sacks and dug through the compost to discover the hidden gems within! Many of the children had been part of the club back in February when the potatoes were planted, so it was particularly special for them to see the fruits of their own labour come to life.
In addition to the potatoes, the children also harvested the elephant garlic that was planted way back in October last year. The garlic bulbs were huge and had an impressively strong smell! Everyone was thrilled to take some of their home-grown produce home and we can’t wait to see what delicious dishes they create with it.
This activity also ties in perfectly with the WPT Sustainability Initiative, which encourages students to learn about growing their own food, making environmentally conscious choices, and understanding where our food comes from. Through Outdoor Club, children are not only having fun and developing practical gardening skills, but they are also learning the importance of sustainability, patience, and caring for our planet. It’s a hands-on way to connect with nature, take pride in their efforts, and see how small actions can make a real difference.
Well done to all our Outdoor Club members!
